Geodesic expresses an interest in how an object that is moving continuously straight ahead is represented within General Relativity. An object moving forward without any obstacles is drawn as a straight line that continues off a page and enters again from the opposite direction. The same object interacting with an obstacle will still be referred to as moving straight ahead, yet we will perceive it as moving in an orbit around the obstacle (also known as curved space-time).
