Iceland
2006 Video
4:54 min. Iceland
has (similarly to The Abandoned City) been made by filming a miniature
set under water. In this piece most of the footage is turned upside
down, meaning that the water surface at the bottom of the screen is
actually the top seen from underneath. Consequently it follows that
the eruptions have been created by materials being dropped into the
water. I
took inspiration from television documentaries documenting remote places
for this piece. I started thinking about all the places most of us have
seen through the media but never experienced in real life. Iceland is
accessible enough to be heavily documented and visited by some, yet
remote enough not to be experienced by the majority of people. The video
piece is a false documentary based on my own experiences, not of Iceland
itself but the television documentaries of it.
