Nature-Processes
2007 Video
5:45 min. Nature-Processes
relate closely to the previous work Iceland both in its technique and
concept. It has been created by filming miniatures placed in a fish
tank under water. Various liquids and materials have been dropped into
this container. This piece, in common with Iceland, has been inspired
by nature documentaries and the way we gather our knowledge of the world
through the media. In this instance I have focused on the scientific knowledge of mountain creation and destruction. My interest lie in the fact that mountains are perceived to be strong, stable, immovable objects that do not change. The geological reality, however, is that these objects are constantly shifting, changing, and being effected by their environment. Moreover, science has proved that mountains are created and destroyed gradually, but the process is too slow for the human perception.
